Barbara Ann Lewis Townsend

After a courageous battle, Barbara Ann Lewis Townsend passed away on November 23, 2012. Visitation was held on Monday, November 26, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Leeds, AL. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. She was born to the late Robert Thomas and Dorothy (Reed) Lewis on May 20, 1936. She grew up in Birmingham and attended Ramsey High School, where she graduated in 1954. For many years, Barbara worked in several secretarial positions before finding her true passion– selling real estate. Barbara was a Realtor for more than 40 years, serving the areas of Leeds, Moody and Odenville. Barbara was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Leeds. Family and friends were Barbara’s delight. She was always willing to share her beautiful smile and spirit with all. Her generosity, as well as her ability to light up a room with laughter, will always be remembered. She enjoyed dancing, music and playing card games like Rook. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Lynda McCullough, Trussville, AL, Laura Townsend, Leeds, AL, and Leslie (Andy) Harp, Rainbow City, AL; her son, Tom Townsend, Moody. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Erica Townsend and Tyler Townsend, both of Woodbridge, VA; Anna Lee McCullough, Trussville, AL; and Natalie and Drew Harp, Rainbow City, AL; and son-in-law, Larry McCullough. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for our mother during her illness. Donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Leeds, AL, in memory of our loving mother and grandmother.
