Services for Charles Carter, age 78, of Pell City, Alabama, were held on Friday, July 1, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City, AL with Pastor Sam Huffstutler and Pastor Nathan Carden officiating.  The family received friends on Thursday, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment was at St. Clair Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers were: Ed Meadow, Arthur Meadow, Caden Carter, Drew Dorough and Charles Wayne Chastain. Mr. Carter passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Carter; brother, John (Amy Jean) Carter; sisters, Barbra (Royce) Pierce, Carolyn (Johnny) Pritchett; children, Joyce Carter, Donna (Phil) Black, Charles (Stephany) Carter, Jr., Reva Dorough, Joel (Shirley) Fritch, Cheryl (Terrell) Dubose, Michelle Puckett; several grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; employees, Arthur Green and Russell Duck; and by a special companion, “Molly”, his faithful dog.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest & Cordella Carter; by two brothers, George Carter & Jack Carter, and by several aunts & uncles. Mr. Carter was the owner of Carter Golf, world renowned golf course construction company.  He built courses for Robert Trent Jones, Reese Jones, Bryan Ault, Earl Stone, and other well known golf course architects.  He was a loving and generous man to his community and was well loved by family and friends.  He will be greatly missed.
