DeVann Bright Stewart ("DeVann"), 84, of Wellington, AL passed away at her home on October 23, 2017, following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
DeVann was born on July 8, 1933, in Pell City, AL to R.E. and Gertrude Bright. DeVann is a graduate of Pell City High School and holds graduate and post-graduate degrees from the University of Alabama including receiving, with honors, the Education Specialist Designation (EdS) with an emphasis in Special Education. Following her retirement from the Public School System of the State of Alabama, DeVann worked many years as a Realtor with Vintage Properties of Gadsden, AL.
DeVann was actively involved in her church, Immanuel Baptist Church in Hokes Bluff, AL. DeVann spent most of her life studying and teaching various Bible classes. DeVann's love of sacred music included worshiping with her church choir and through various Ladies' trios.
DeVann was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bob Stewart and her older sister Geraldine (Jeri) Golden.
DeVann and Bob have three children: Gala Stewart Edgar (James) of Glencoe, AL; Allen Stewart (Robin) of Navarre, FL; and Mark Stewart (Gloria) of Signal Mountain, TN. Grandchildren include one granddaughter, eight grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. DeVann's surviving sister is Joyce ("Bitsy") Werkheiser (Art). Other survivors include in-laws M.I. ("Curl") Golden Sr. and Glover Stewart (Sarah), plus many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Immanuel Baptist Church at 3680 Old US Highway 278 East, Hokes Bluff, AL 35903 with Rev. Anthony Copeland officiating. DeVann will be laid to rest next to Bob at a later date at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
