Funeral Services for George Jones, age 79, were held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at 11 AM, at Epiphany Church, 1338 Montevallo Road, Leeds, AL, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Internment was followed at the Elmwood Cemetery. George passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Poe Jones; son, Robert Wolford Jones (Wendy); and grandson, Charles Duncan Jones; brother, Frank Charles Jones (Laurie); step-sons, Dru Donald Buchan and fiancée, Aleksandra Jankoviak and Judson Arthur Buchan (Kathy) and granddaughters, Mary Kathryn and Rachel Victoria Buchan. George was the son of Florence Harris Jones and George Hiles Jones, Sr. George graduated from Birmingham-Southern College 1954 and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He earned an Education for Ministry certificate from the School of Theology, University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, 1981. George formed Association Management Services to serve as executive director for multiple small business associations in the Southeast. He was co-founder and served as Senior Warden of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Leeds, Alabama. George was a hospice caregiver and served as Director of the Leeds Welfare Cooperative. He was a recipient of numerous civic and humanitarian awards. Mr. Jones was a long time participant in Kairos Prison Ministry and served on the Board of the Alabama Committee to Abolish the Death Penalty. George was an avid history buff, and published author, including Just Yesterday (stories of Leeds history).
