Jane Guthrie Newton, age 75, passed away at her home in Pell City,  AL on February 1, 2013. Mrs. Newton's funeral was held at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City on Monday, February 4th, 2013.  Burial followed in Lynn Cemetery in Lynn, Alabama. Mrs. Newton was a native of Winston County. She graduated from Lynn High School in 1955.   Pell City was her home for 52 years.  She was married to Richard Guthrie from 1956 to 1979.  She married Billy Ray Newton, September 8, 1986. The couple celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in September 2011 before Mr. Newton lost his battle with cancer in March 2012.  Mrs. Newton was employed at The Petrolane Dixie Gas Company, TG & Y, and worked at Contel for many years until her retirement in 1992. She was a charter member of the Pell City Jaycettes.  Mrs. Newton was a member of Logan Martin Church of Christ where she enjoyed working with the lady's ministry.  For twenty years, the ladies of this ministry, including Mrs. Newton, handmade stuffed bears for pediatric patients of the Emergency Department at St. Vincent's St. Clair Hospital.  Mrs. Newton was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide.  She had a witty character and an incredible heart. Proceeding her in death was  her husband, Billy Ray Newton. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Guthrie Savage (Gary) and Susan Guthrie Ballard (Greg); step-children, Donna Roe Traweek (Rod) and Kevin Newton (Jessica); eight grandchildren, Tyler Savage, Blair Savage, Anna Coburn, David Leonard, Kristen Leonard, Zach Newton, Chase Newton,Whitney Newton, and one great-grandchild. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the services.
