PELL CITY - Mr. Lawton L. Polk, age 98, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Welch Polk; parents, Charles Ross Polk and Dovie Lovell; 8 brothers and three sisters.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a seaman. He served on the NTC Great Lakes, IL and later on the USS Nevada during the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign. He received his Honorable Discharge in January 1946.
Mr. Polk is survived by his son, Kenneth R. (Lana) Polk; daughter, Linda Jennings, grandchildren, Kenneth Lawton (Misty) Polk, Surf City, NC, Elizabeth (Stephen) Adcock, Reno, NV, Lynn (Cecil) Peters, Lincoln, Ala., and Angie (Jay) Nolen, Oneonta, Ala.; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Edna Polk.
The family would like to thank Rhonda Purdy, Joyce St. John, the staff at Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home, Wanda King and Jewel Chandler for the excellent care they provided for Mr. Polk.
His funeral service was held Wednesday, May 9, 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Kilgore Funeral Home. Interment followed at Valley Hill Cemetery.
