George Dana Johnson Obituary

Margaret, Alabama - George Dana Johnson, 86, of Margaret, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025. Born on Nov. 16, 1938, in Richwood, West Virginia, George was the beloved son of Arthella Johnson (née Newsome) and Clelly Everette Johnson.

George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, with assignments in Keflavik, Iceland, and later in Panama City, Florida. After receiving an honorable discharge, he settled in Alabama, where he started a sandblasting business with his brother. In 1973, he moved to Margaret, Alabama, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 39 years, Barbara Ann Johnson (née Railey), and by his sons, John Craig Johnson and William Everette Johnson.

George is survived by his son, Clelly Alexander Johnson; his brother, Charles Edward Johnson; and sisters, Anna Marie Spore and Billie Elizabeth Wolfe. He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Marie Butler, whom he dearly loved and hoped to marry.

A man of deep faith, George was a devoted member of New London Bread of Life Ministries. He began each morning reading Psalm 91, and his unwavering belief in God was evident in the kindness, generosity, and guidance he offered to all who knew him.

George's legacy extends beyond his immediate family. He was a surrogate father and grandfather to many, offering wisdom, support, and unconditional love. His presence in the lives of his nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and community will be remembered with deep affection and gratitude.

He will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 28, 2025 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1655 Levine Rd.
