Gloria Todd, age 64, of Pell City, AL, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at UAB Medical Center West after a tremendously short battle with cancer surrounded by friends and family. Gloria was preceded in death by her sister, Viola Williams, and granddaughter, Madison Todd.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Claude Todd; daughter, Sherry Thomas; son, Christopher Todd; grandchildren, Mark Thomas, II, Lily Thomas, Elle Thomas and Bryson Todd; Sister, Peggy Mullins; nieces, Martha Wesley, Pamela Williams, and Elizabeth Stevens; nephews, Bobby Bailey and Isom Fair; cherished grand nieces and grand nephews; and too many beloved friends to count.
Gloria had a smile that lit up the room and a laughter that was as contagious as it was resounding. She began her relationship with the people of Pell City by working at Jack's in the 80's, moved her giggle down the street to Food World during the 90's, and ended up serving her infectious personality along with yummy treats at the Publix on Martin Street starting in 2013. She loved the people of her town and served them in any way: by means of cleaning, or serving food, or walking alongside those who needed a hand. She never met a stranger and had more charm and work ethic in her 5-foot frame than a six-foot-four Alabama linebacker. And Gloria did love Alabama football, certain NASCAR drivers, and the site of a working cowboy. She also loved Jesus and the word of God and sought to encourage anyone who would listen that God was good and that we should enjoy all the beauty of the earth he made, especially the mountains of Tennessee. She loved to stay involved with her children, she was a selfless mother. "Nana" was also constantly engaged with her grandchildren, great nieces, and nephews by sitting down to color, eat, or attending whatever she could that celebrated them. If you were in "Aunt Glo's" life, you know she cooked a mean fried chicken leg and every Christmas you would be offered her unique friendship cake. Her legacy will be one of love, hope, and witch-like cackles.
A memorial for Gloria will be held at Celebrations (Pell City) on January 9 from 6-8 p.m. 3005 Martin St South, Cropwell, AL 35054. Please join us in remembering Gloria Todd's life.
