Ashville, Al - William Owen Washington (Billy) of Ashville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026.

Born December 30, 1946 in Leeds, Alabama, he was the son of the late Howard O. Washington and Pauline Washington. William proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He later served his community as a law enforcement officer and ended his working career as a truck driver.

After retiring, William enjoyed pursuing his love of travel. Known for his adventurous spirit, he enjoyed traveling to new places as well as revisiting the places he loved. He also enjoyed reading, fishing, motorcycles, and horses.

He is survived by his spouse, Kathy Detwiler; his children, Matt Washington (Tonya), Kim Brasher (Ronnie) and Amanda Monk (Paul); grandchildren, Peyton Weathington (Andrew), Braden Brasher (Abigail), Hailey Thomas (Nick) and Hannah Monk; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Eleanor and Parker; as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family that loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Blair Brasher; brother, Joel Washington; and sisters, Paulette Gilchrist and Joann Lowe.

He will be remembered for his art of storytelling and his adventurous spirit, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends who knew and loved him.
